I was scared the movie was going to be so not like the book but it was so close to the book it was brillant. I am hoping that you do the whole series of the book. My son who is 12 had started reading the book and loved the movie. Well done!!!! Highly recommended.

    • Levi says:

  6. Brittni says:

I have been waiting for this since i was in year 8 when i was made to read the series in english class. I fell in love with the books and am super excited to see it be played out on the big screen.

  7. Someone Else says:

Bugger, my local cinema isn’t screening it. Looks like I’m going to have to take a trip into Sydney on Saturday.

  8. Claire says:

I’m seeing it tonight… Gold Class… chyeah boi!!! BEST DAY EVER!!!!

  9. Izzy says:

Ahhhhh!!!!! so excited im in year 7, just read the books and im obssesed!!!!!!!! people say im too young to read the books but then again many people say im overly precocious and was born at 30 and kept getting wiser.

ahhhh soooooo excited . sorry im kinda having a moment now!!!!!!!!

    • Helen says:

These books were written for teenagers, so why anyone would claim you are ‘precocious’ for reading them … I’m lost for words at that. I was reading ‘The Day of the Triffids’ and other such books when around 7 – no-one proclaimed me to be precocious; it was considered normal reading material.

  10. Nic says:

Seeing it tonight with my sis, her bf and my mum – we’ve all read the books, except my sis’ bf, and we are pretty excited! Mum wasn’t going to come – think she thought she’d embarrass us or whatever but I never really went through the ‘OMG, I’m so embarrassed to be seen with my mum’ phase so I’m making her come with us haha

    • Nic says:

Almost forgot – a lot of the movie was filmed in our town so we’re really excited to see how much we can recognise and a couple people we know might have made the final cut so it’s going to be exciting to try and spot them!

      • michael says:

hi nic im from great britain, i watched the movie and i enjoyed it, there wernt too many people in the movie so i wonder if you did recognize anyone (except the home and away/neighbours regulars) are they doing sequels to the movie? i hope so!!!!

  11. Erin says:

I saw the preview in Adelaide, and now we’ve got a group of 16 going to the premier tonight, CAN’T WAIT!

  12. Jayde says:

Saw it at the Sydney premiere and can’t wait to see it again… it feels like forever since I saw it already… can’t wait for the blu-ray (or DVD but hopefully blu-ray) release! =)

  13. Nick says:

I have read all the books a couple hundred times over since I first read them in 2006. Can’t believe its finally becoming a moive. I think all my friends must think I’m so odd cause I’ve been counting down for this day since the date was first released. OMG SO SO SO SO EXCITED.
Seeing the movie with the only other slightly obsessed fan at school.
    CANT WAIT!!!!!!!!!!

  15. Juliana says:

I went to watch it today with my school. It is such a cool movie. My number one wish isthat there will be part 2. xD

  16. Gilly says:

Saw it today with some of my friends after waiting a whole year for it. Cried before the movie, cried after the movie. It was absolutely amazingg ;D I can’t wait to see the next one, and I reckon I’ll watch it over 200 times before the next one xD

  17. Matilda says:

Just got home from it and it was Fan-freaking-tasic! I LOVED IT! I didn’t want it to end, they did a great job in my opinion. And how beautiful is Lincoln Lewis!? <3 Seeing it again on Sunday, so excited. :)

  18. Spader Tre says:

You lucky guys living in the right country. The Swedish cinema can’t even tell when (if??) it’s going to show here…

Enjoy your night, everyone! And tell us in the rest of the world of your experience…

    Bloody kangaroos. Sigh. ; )

    • Timothy says:

It will get to america at least at the moment. release dates for the US have not been released yet. It is an awesome movie which I would go and see over and over.

  19. millie says:

just went and seen it, TWTWB was sooooooo blooody awesomee, hahaha my boyfriend was even scared. lol (: it was soooo good!!♥

  20. Julia says:

Just saw it in Auckland, NZ, and I was so so so impressed. I’ve been quite worried about being disappointed with the film since the books are just amazing but… not one disappointment at all! The film was brilliant. I loved all the references to the books, the chemistry between the cast was brilliant, and the changes they made added to the overall film rather than taking away from it. Not to mention the beautiful direction and cinematography. Overall it is a fantastic film as well as a fantastic adaptation. I can’t wait to see it again!

  21. Georgia says:

ahhh, amazing. i just saw it myself and being a long time fan i had me doubts, BUT I LOVED IT.

I went with all my friends and my boyfriend’s freinds. i would even let him touch my leg because i wanted to see all of it, every single bit. We went with exchange students too, even they loved it!!!
all are going to start reading the books.

im sooo happy with the movie. well done stuart beattie. you should be proud.
ohhh and also i looooved the chris part. that gave some lightness to the film :) )))

  22. Jessica Stone says:

Loved it!!!! it was brilliant, and cannot wait for a sequel. Loved when ellie screamed chris down- excellent!

  23. Kelly says:

Gold class, tomorrow night, 9:00PM, Melbourne.
9 hours, 1 minute to go.
    So excited! :)

  24. Kelly says:

    9:00 AM ** :)

  25. WazzuMan says:

Seen it, loved it. A beautiful film that could put Hollywood to shame. My advise, get in their and just enjoy youselves. Leave all expectations back at home and you won’t be disappointed.

All international fans, just hang in there. We may have something for you soon.

  26. Lambchops says:

I wish it was coming to canada if it is then in so excited

  27. liz says:

Wish it were showing in USA i really want to see it
    i read all the books

  28. The Caretaker says:

I sure hope they will show it here in Norway one day! I’ve read all the books, and i think i forgot to give back the last book i read to the library… oh well.

  29. phoebeTonkinRulez says:

really hope it release’s in the UK

  30. frankie says:

The movie was even more amazing than I could have hoped. It’s got a couple of 2-30 second eye roll moments but you hardly notice them.

As soon as the credits rolled my friends and I had a mutual agreement to see it again next week. Just think, the more everyone goes to it, the higher the chance of a sequel.

  31. amanda says:

saw it at the same time as my daughter 1000kms away and couldnt wait to get home to talk about it……………. just loved it. happy to see it again and soon……….. true to the book and desperate for number 2……… dont know how I will manage to wait for the next one. Will have to take my dad too as he also loved the books.

  32. lauren says:

Was fantastic! Although, they changed a few parts, including when they blow up the bridge and they also left some things out. When the song starts before the credits, i thought “why is there a song in the middle of the movie!?” then my friend told me its over! They could have made it alot longer then only 1 hour 44 minutes.

  33. Someone Else says:

Well, I have to say that I was impressed overall. I think that the script, especially the dialogue, suffered from Beatie’s dual roles and I have a few nit picks with the action scenes (you know, car doors being bullet proof and all that), but overall it was good. I think that it should probably have gone on another 5-10 minutes, especially since they set Robin up as being far weaker than her book self and then had her violate her morals. Since they didn’t deal with that in this film, I think that they should spend a good deal of time on it in the next film, if there is one.

My other main criticism was the ending. In my opinion, they should not have been arming up like that. This isn’t “Red Dawn”, you don’t just acquire enemy arms with no effort at all. I mean, they even had a friggin’ RPG! That’s not something you just find laying about. They have dedicated teams for them.

But enough of my bitching, because that would give the impression that I didn’t like the movie. The highlight of the movie was Chris. Honestly, I am probably going to cry when he dies in the next movie :( .

  34. Claire says:

I liked the stuff that they put in the movie, I was disappointed at what they left out – I think some parts they left out are quite crucial to the story. Such as the Hermit’s hut. I didn’t really like the way they portrayed Robyn… it wasn’t really true to her character in the book. I think they went a bit overboard and the same with Fi – they made her seem a bit airheadish when in the book she was just unkown to it all. My only other criticisms are that the majority of them sounded way to british – and Chris…. I thought their version of Chris was great however again it wasn’t true to the story. In the book Chris was deep and wrote poetry… can’t see this Chris ever doing that. I guess in it’s own way… putting aside my expectations and comparison’s to the book…. it was good movie that i would definately go see again… and probably again.

    • Lauren says:

I was a bit disappointed with Robyn too. The way I pictured her in the books was totally different! But overall the movie was EPIC!

  35. Arianne says:

    OMG!!!!!!!!!!
For my birthday my dad bought tickets to the movie and then after we see it, we are going to go and listen, get books signed, ask questions and watch the man himself….. JOHN MARSDEN!!!!!! LIVE!!! I AM SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO EXCITED!!!!!!!!!! I CANNOT WAIT…… 6THSEPT !!!! SOO SOON!!!!!!!!!
    <3 <3 I love him!

  36. Angela says:

I was a little disapointed. Loved it, but still disapointed. It wasn’t what I thought it would be. I thought it’d have me itching to see it over and over, but it didn’t. I think I spent a lot of time thinking, ‘that’s not how it happened in the book’. The books are always better though (I noticed that line in the movie too!).

  37. Amber says:

was SUPPOSED to see it thurs night but I had tickets to Akmal already, and then was SUPPOSED to see it fri night but I had to get tested for a brian tumor…. world is against me seeing it
But I am going tomorrow even if it kills me!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  38. Cal585 says:

I just saw it this afternoon. It was brilliant! Up until then I was sceptical about how good it was going to be. Sure people had said it was good, but they were major fans of the book. Watching the trailer, I was cringing at several lines, but when those lines were put into the context of the film, they fitted in seamlessly. My friends I went with who hadn’t read the book thought it was great and that Caitlin made a great Ellie (though I think Homer was a favourite). Some great comedy even in serious situations (eg. Fi breaking window) and I was surprised how accurate to the book it was and how much they got in (though I’m not sure if I liked the bit with Robyn at the end…).
Only complain I heard was that they were just getting into it and wanted more.
Might actually see this movie a few times before buying it on dvd (and I never usually go more than once). Great job!

  39. April says:

Just got back from seeing the movie.. Epic!
Hanging out to see the continuations! I hope there is not long between each release, keep them coming dont wait!!
Need more.. Do not feel satisfied with just leaving it at that, the movie was just begining!!

  40. Liz says:

A fantastic movie which kept me involved the whole way. Great mix of action, character growth, humour and suspense. I’ll see it again and can’t wait for the next one!

  41. Jaffa says:

Saw the movie on thrusday night.
IT WAS SOOOOOOOOOOO FANTASTICLY, AMAZINGLY, WONDERFULY, IMPOSSIBLY THE BEST MOVIE YET!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
You know how people say the book is always better than the book, well i think John Marsden would be very proud of the director of this movie because they did an absolutly fantastic job!!!!
I dont think I stopped smiling throughout the whole film, well except when i was gasping!!
I loved how the movie stuck to the dialogue in the book. I also loved that the movie didn’t skip anything huge.
Even though I’ve read all the books a couple hundred times I was still on the edge of my seat the whole movie. The movie wasn’t entirly predictable and it was overall just the best.
My only disappoint is that all the other 9 books won’t be made into films.
I really really hope that they continue to make these wonderful books into film.
CANT WAIT TO SEE TOMORROW WHEN THE WAR BEGAN, AGAIN!!!!

  42. John says:

I seen it last night, I thought it was pretty good. Only criticisms is that it kinda felt a bit rushed, i definitely think it should have gone for at least 2 hours. Also all the girls sounded like they had british accents, except for Corrie (who is actually british). But yeah great adaptation and really hope they make the 2nd one. Although the ending kinda made it seem like they were going to go straight into the 3rd book which is impossible but I dont know just seemed like thats what they were hinting at.

    • Jesse says:

Omg John same here i thought it was rushed but i suppose thats for those who havent read the books. Also i thought they hinted that they were going into the 3rd one so maybe they will do a 2/3?? who knows lol

      • Samm says:

woah i totally agree that it must have been rushed for someone who hadn’t read the book but i heard that they’re making the 2nd and 3rd into movies and the rest into a t.v. series which i’m annoyed about… i just want them to be all movies.

        • Dee says:

Yeah, but just think how much more detail and time they can put into a tv series, I would almost prefer it because they wouldnt be held back my screening times, so could put as much detail as the book has

    • Shae says:

The main character is british too. She starred on the sleep over club when she was very little and had a very strong british accent.

  43. Jesse says:

Omg if they make the others i want to audiction for a role anyone got any ideas how to get in contact with the organisation or one of the actors :P so they can tell me ?

  44. Naomi says:

Saw it LOVED it… Gonna see it AGAIN!!!!!

    Need MORE movies!

  45. Jesse says:

BTW Caitlin Stasey was a Bloody fantastic Ellie i thought.
and the ending scene shot was a little bit to Rambo….

  46. Natasha says:

I saw the movie today with my friend it was great, we have both read the book and still thought it was good but was it just us or did it get to the blowing of the bridge to soon?
    Make the rest

  47. Team Linton says:

Beautiful imagery, decent script, credible acting and overall outstanding. I loved it, amazingly true to the book. I was happily surprised it seemed much more mature and violent. Only complaint is how Robyn and Chris were portrayed…Robyn was too “nerdy” or weak you could say, I’m glad they put in her strong sense of morals though. Chris was very funny, but not as poetic or deep as book Chris.

The only acting I feel a bit uncertain about was Lee, it seemed too much like he was just reading lines, not living them.

I absolutely adored the scene where Ellie went off at Chris, not that dramatic in the book, but unbelievably touching. Also happy Corrie was shot getting away, not stealing ferrets…

I can garantee an overseas release and many sequels!

    • Dee says:

only thing now is that they have to change the story a bit in the 3rd movie if it gets made, coz the only reason krvin isnt beaten to death is because corrie was shot at the ferret farm…its only a little detail but it could change things.

  48. Jude says:

Anyone know where it was filmed? and which mountain range?

    • Jaffa says:

The movie was filmed in the Hunter Valley at Dungog, Maitland and Raymod Terrace and the mountain range in the movie was the Blue Mountains, all in NSW, Australia. Some scenes where also shot in the studios in Sydney.

  49. Merete says:

When will this movie be in Norway?

  50. Julia says:

Went to the premiere in Sydney and then went to see the movie on the 3rd as well!! It was FANTASTIC!!!!!

  51. Nina says:

Saw the movie in V-Max the other night. It was great, really lived up to expectations and is close to the books. I would definitely go and see it again!!!!

  52. dan says:

good movie, books r aways going 2 b better bt all in all cant wait 4 the 2nd movie!

  53. Abster says:

OMG read the books and loved it soo much
it was sooo scary and loud wow i was liike vibraiting in the seat

  54. Kay says:

Great movie, when I first watched it on Thursday I was so drawn into the film. I was scared for them and happy for them and it was a great piece of film. Only have two little problems with it but they are so minor and I’m sure if they make the rest of the books these problems will go away =D Everyon should go see it!!!!!!!!!!

  55. Samm says:

i thought that in the movie that it was really funny when ellie told corrie that the books are always better than the movies… in some way it was like they were trying to get sales up with the books which i think is quite clever

  56. Elliee says:

Omg, amazing movie. It was nail-biting and fast-paced and passionate and intense and funny and EPIC the whole time. I reaally hope they make the next one, I have read the series many times but I am now in love with the movies aswell:) I think my fave character is Homer, he is hot ;) I didnt like the “weak” Robyn, she seemed to me (in the book) like more of the Corrie in the movie. You know? :) My friends and I cried our eyes out when Ellie is saying goodbye to Corrie, and then the pinky promise thing :’( I loved it overall, great movie :) (Y)

    • Elliee says:

And i think my fave part was either: a)When they found Chris. He was hilarious! He just rambled, and it was SO awkward. I love Chris too. OR.. b) When that random prisoner tried to rebel and then the guy comes up to him and jst goes *BANG* and shoots him in the head, i literally could not stop laughing. It was kinda inappropriate of me, that guy was so mean :| Bahaha:)

  57. Jen says:

My husband loved the movie but I was a bit dissapointed. In the book Kevin is only saved from being killed because it was proved he was not at the bridge, so is that going to make it hard for him to come back, as per the 3rd book ? I also think they could have made it a bit more drawn out, it was too rushed.
My main dissapointment was that they cut the scene that I got to play an extra in…..there goes my chance at being a movie star…………..

    • Samm says:

How did you become to be an extra?? and and which scene were you in?

      • Jen says:

They put adds in the local paper ( I live near where it was filmed ) and I was one of the townspeople held in the showground. They tried to get a lot of locals involved

    • Claire says:

John Marsden was telling them that they could change the plot a little for the next 2 movies if they wanted… so maybe they did that with Kevin to make the next one or two a little different! Who knows what they’ve got in store but i’m sure they’re already planning it :) Can’t wait.

      • Dee says:

but they can’t make it 2 different with kevin coz he is the one who has the plan 2 make the bomb in the container ship. I spose they can make some1 else have the idea but kevin makes me laugh coz hes such a scaredy cat compared to the rest. I just really hope they make all 7 into movies that would be so awesome.

  58. Arrie says:

First chance I had I was at the Cinema’s to see this and I LOVED IT!! Well done to Australia, you pulled out the big bucks and did a brilliant big budget movie….I was on the edge of my seat the whole time! Read the books back in High School….. 10yrs later still a huge fan, and the movie just captured everything I loved about the books. I really hope that everyone gets behind this as I’m definately looking forward to more of the books coming to life on the big screen :)

  59. Shae says:

It was really good, and i loved the inclusion of very minute details which are described in the book, but the ending made me a little frustrated, as thats not how it went! The ending is ultimately the same but with some added extras that got me saying ‘thats not how it goesssss!!! That doesnt happen!!!!!’ But after I got over that, I decided I very much enjoyed the movie. It was well over due to come out!

  60. Roy says:

when will it premier in the Philippines!?!?!?!?!??!

  61. Dee says:

I really enjoyed it, was slightly disappointed with Robyn, she just seemed too young and childish. overall it was pretty true to the book, which I liked a lot. I thought the soundtrack was interesting, it was like they just listened to the triple j hottest 100 and chose the songs from there. I also thought that hell wasnt portrayed like it is in the books, because it is open, there isnt supposed to be an obvious way in or out… didnt make sense to me. I thought it was pretty close to the book and was overall satisfied. i cant wait to go back and see it next week, not to mention see the next movie.

  62. Lisa says:

I have read the books a thousand times since I bought the first one in 1996 – and I was so impressed at how this movie stacked up! The cast was fantastic, the script was well-written and followed the story really closely! Couldn’t be happier, it was absolutely brilliant!!!!! Can’t wait for the next one now!

  63. tomorro_series_is_da_bomb says:

OMG!!!!! I saw the movie yesterday n I can’t stop thinkin about it!!!!! It is not only the best Aussie movie i have ever seen but it is the best movie in the world i have ever seen!!!!! I loved the books and the movie is soooo good!!!!! Hell was exactly how I pictured it and it was iscolated wich was goood… I used to be obsessed with twilight but no i love the Tomorro series! I was on the edge of my seat thru the whole movie and I could watch it ova n ova n ova agen!!!! I cannot wait for the nest movie to cum out!!! My fave characters hav always been ellie n kevin n now tht Lincoln ewis is playin him I like him a WHOLE lot more!!!!! lol he is so hot… I hav always wanted 2 act so if anyone can like tell me how I can get onto sumone who is involved with the castin let me no!!! TOMORROW ROCKS!!!!!!!

  64. Lisa says:

I also wanna see the movie :/ Why is it just shown in Australia?

  65. Macushla says:

i have seen TWTWB a few time now and absolutely loved every second!!! the movie producers definitely did justice to the book. i cant wait to see it again!!!

  66. Joe says:

saw it in brisbane last saturday was awsome loved it especially loved at the start with the camcorder effect was awsome cant wait till the next one

  67. Jem says:

Going on school excursion tomorrow to see it…..
    SO EXCITED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
its going to be fan-tastic =D

  68. Chuan says:

You get to go see it during school, Lucky!!! :) Just seen it in NZ today, became my farourite film of all time! Going to read the book again then see it again to prevent my brain from imploding xD yeah darn fine movie can’t wait for the Dead if the Night!
    p.s you got a free extra/cast here ;)

  69. Ez says:

This was a brilliant movie! I saw it with my bookclub friends.
It may have a few differences to the book/s, however I think it makes it more exciting, because you are not exactly sure what will happen and when they will occur. It’s also nice to see someone else’s (Stuart Beattie’s) interpretation of the characters ie. their personality traits and the way they look; and also the place. BTW fantasic cinematography!!!
10 years ago when I was in year 10 the books were very popular with my peers, it so good to be able to read and enjoy them again so throughly.
I think I will be making another visit to the cinemas to see it again. :)

  70. jess says:

OMG the best movie out, i think it is in line with the twilight saga coming from a massive twilight phanatic, but i would go nd see it a million times if i had the money best movie ever

  71. Grace says:

Ha, i saw it on Sunday, it was so epic, i loved every heart-stopping, action-packed minute of it!
I read the books in January and February this year and fell in love with them! I’ve pinned every review and report of the Tomorrow Series and the TWTWB Movie i can get my hands on onto my pinboard :P
People say i’m too young to read them (i’m 12 years old, in Grade 6) , but i do not care what they think about, because i read so much, i normally finish off a book every two or three days. I’m running out of books!! :)

  72. daniel says:

i seen it 3 times on sept 2 i ditched school to see it then again on th 4-5-7-10 love the movie and the books so much!!!!!!!!

  73. Timothy says:

It was by far the best movie I have ever seen and would absolutely see it again.

  74. Someone says:

When will the movie come to America? I’m dying to see it. I’m working on “A Killing Frost” right now.

  75. Random says:

Omg the books are great i’m just reading them at the moment, and the movie was fantastic. It’s kinda funny, cause i’m normally waiting for movies to come out in Aussie.

Can’t wait till they release another movie!!! :)

  76. J says:

I saw the movie today. I read the book about 5 years ago at school and didn’t find it particularly interesting (maybe because I was being forced to read? lol), but decided to go to the movie anyway. I went in with no expectations and came out just blown away! Now I have ordered the first 2 books and am going to read them again! I don’t think it is fair to compare the movie and the book because they are two completely different things on 2 entirely different mediums; the director/writer has so many readers expectation to live up to and it’s just impossible to please every one of them. I was overall pleased and felt that the movie gave some life to the book, hence why I am now going to re-read it with the movie playing in my head side-by-side.
    :)

  77. Helen says:

A general comment from what I’ve read: sounds like the book/s were dumbed down / altered for the sake of (American style, and no offence to Americans per se) visual effects (the ‘gung ho’ effects of ‘Red Dawn’) in order to sell it to the mass market. From a couple of film reviews I have heard from ‘politically correct’ morons (well-known film reviewers), it was politicised (which made me wonder when Australia is going to get over it’s patriarchal attitude). Thankfully, I have not read any politically correct / racist comments in the comments above [and below]. Thank you, everyone. I read the first book and I’m buggered if I could find any mention or indication of what those two moronic reviewers mentioned. Won’t mention the scene in order to prevent any of that so-called ‘flaming’ or whatever it’s called.

  78. marina says:

    And Brazil???

I have never read the books (and I live here in Australia) and a mate of mine Garnet ( an aspiring writer and filmmaker himself) convinced me to go with him to the movies to join him on his 30th viewing. Yes you read that right… Garnet watched this film 30 times in a few weeks! So I figured it had to be somewhat watchable.

At first, during the opening scenes, I thought it was going to turn out to be entirely hokey but to my surprise I found myself gripped. It was a fun little film and a great example that we too can make “Hollywood” style movies, where you can leave your brain at the door and just have a rockin’ good time.

I am extremely picky when it comes to Australian movies, I am Australian but alot of it i cant stand (Mostly Home and away and neighbours type acting, not actors, acting) I have to admit i waited till it came out on dvd despite planning to see it on its premiere i just didnt get around to it, but i thought it was a great film I was skeptical about the casting but (specifically Robyn, Ellie and Chris) but they all grew on me, only a few scenes i didnt like, when Ellie was trying to convince her parents i think she over acted that and when chris was stoned it was bad acting other than that i loved it. they could have built up the ending with a bit more momentum for the next film but over all I loved the film.
Also I loved the animation for the end credits as well as the song. that was perfect. I look forward to the next ones!
