Teaser trailer analysis
A fantastic post analysing the Tomorrow: When The War Began teaser trailer frame-by-frame was made the other day, on the Tomorrow-Movies Forum, by Nadia (AKA “lovecaitlin”).
Okay this is not the most original or brilliant idea I’ve ever had but I thought it would be cool to analyse the teaser trailer frame by frame, considering that we have to wait at least a couple of months to get the full-length one.
There were a couple of scenes I couldn’t pick, maybe because they aren’t in the book. So… let’s start!
1) Ellie going to Corrie’s. Very easy one to pick.

2) Ellie’s house? I’m not 100% sure, but it is pretty different to Corrie’s place and it doesn’t look like Homer’s house. I couldn’t pick those two people near the paddocks. Maybe they’re Ellie’s parents?

3) Corrie and Ellie planning the trip. Another easy scene to guess.

4) I think it’s safe to say it is Tailor’s stitch and Ellie’s Landie!

5) On the top. Wombegonoo?

6) Homer manages to find the clearing. I can see a very tired Kevin behind those trees!

7) Kevin takes a photo of Corrie. This scene has been added to the movie but I would have to say it is a lovely addition. Plus… how beautiful is Hell?!?

8) Ellie and friends playing in the creek. What gorgeous scenery!

9) The tackling scene. This scene has been added too, but I can see the similiarities to the creek scene in the book, when Fi brushes her ‘perfect’ teeth. Of course it would have made Fi look more sweet but I thought this scene was very, very funny. Another nice add IMHO.

10) Robyn and Ellie laughing hard and Robyn using her asthma inhaler. In the books it was Fi’s sister who was asthmatic, but we don’t see Robyn that much in the first book, so I think it could have been added to develop her character more or to make the scene funnier.

11) Campfire scenes. Just as pictured. Very cute scenes between Ellie & Lee and Kevin & Corrie. I can see very good chemistry between the whole cast.

12) Ellie notices the aircrafts flying overhead. Very, very faithful to the book and amazingly portrayed. The colouring is perfect in this scene. The only thing I couldn’t understand is why they took those rifles with them for the trip. At the beginning (when Homer is in the creek after finding the clearing) I noticed that Ellie had a rifle. Oh well, I guess Hell may be very dangerous
. How cute is Kevin’s arm on Corrie? ^_^

13) Homer looking for his parents. Is it just me or he does actually say “Mama, papa!”? Because it’s how we say mum and dad in Italian
.

14) Ellie looking for her parents too. Nice house, I love the door.

15) Everyone looking worried as there’s no dial tone. Nice idea to show the picture on Ellie’s mobile. You can see both Ellie and Corrie wearing their school uniform ^_^

16) As a member of the Facebook group pointed out, they must be at Homer’s in this scene. You can see the Greek orthodox religious icon on the wall, plus Homer is the only one missing in this scene. I suppose he was looking for his mother’s needlepoint like in the book.

17) Ellie, Corrie and Kevin sneaking a look at the Showground. It stays very true to the book except for the explosion I think, but it added a bit more action, so I don’t mind it.

18) No need to say which scene this is
.

19) Couldn’t figure out which scene it is. Help me please! I can’t see either Chris nor Fi. Could be an added scene.

20) This part is driving me mad. At first I thought it was still the Showground scene but thinking more about it… I can see very different coloring, plus there’s a kind of blue light on Ellie’s face. It looks like some soldiers walked past Ellie while they were using their torches. In the next scene you can see they use their torches and they’ve got a blue lights. I suppose it could be the lawn mower scene. What do you reckon?

21) This is another scene that is driving me mad. It can’t be the rescue scene because the truck is very different to the one we saw in the Ellie, Robyn and Lee scene, still plus it doesn’t have the shovel. I guess it could be a random scene…?

22) Ellie and Lee smiling (ok not really) at each other. Judging from Ellie’s wound I would say it’s just after the rescue scene and Lee is probably thanking her. Must be the kissing scene. I can’t figure out where they are, though.

23) Finally an easy scene to pick. Fi breaking a window at Curr’s.

24) Homer winking at Fi. I remember this scene to be exactly like that in the book, when Ellie says it wasn’t the ‘Oh Ellie and Lee’ wink. I think they’ve changed the context in the movie, though.

25) Homer hiding and handling a rifle, and Corrie hiding.

26) I remember Homer saying that they had to start thinking of themselves like guerrillas but I think it’s a different scene, can’t figure out which one.

27) Ellie hiding in the sunroom. Very faithful to the book.

28) Homer firing. I can’t remember him firing, correct me if I’m wrong, but it’s a great scene. Cinematography is amazing in this one.

29) Kevin, Homer, Ellie, Corrie and Fi running. Seeing that Robyn and Lee are missing in this scene I’m 90% sure that they’re running in the shed before Corrie’s house is destroyed.

30) The explosion, of course.

31) Pretty sure this is after blowing up the bridge. There are only six of them.

32) An added scene but what great acting by Caitlin. I think it is before blowing up the bridge, maybe when Homer was starting to plan how to destroy it and Ellie reckons they must fight (?)

Awesome job
but I have to say that on number 13 it can’t be the lawnmower scene because all of them are there. In the book its just Ellie, Kevin, and Corrie. Unless they changed it for the movie? Great analysis tho
True! Modified the wording now…
yeah actually I meant it was Corrie’s house explosion
when they’re in the shed ^_^
Sorry that was meant to be on number 30 :S
I really like it but why’d you say “ts how we say mum and dad in italian?” homer’s Greek!!
(13) nice work!
I think I get what you’re saying now. I’m not very good with languages!
no problem
I know that Homer’s greek, it’s just that I found pretty weird to hear italian words but it’s fine, no one would notice it
thank you Nick for posting my analysis on the website
I’m very grateful
i think he is saying baba which you say in greek for dad
in scene 21, i thnk its when ellie and fi r driving the fuel tanker and the soilders r doing a patrol?
If I remember correctly then they kept their lights off when they were taking the tanker and also it looks more like the centre of town based on the buildings not being residential. Plus, if they kept with the books then the streetlamp that is too the right (you can just see the light coming down from it) would mean that they are somewhat near the showground.
tru man u r right.lol. i didnt study the pic that much ae!
WOW NICK!!!
AMAZING JOB!!!
thanks again for the awesome website and the fantastic job you do
love it!!
……….AND NADIA
THE ANALYSE IS MIND BLOWING
GREAT WORK
For question 21 i think it is the petrol tanker part scene as Dan said but i thought they did leave they’re light on ‘to confused the soldiers to by them a second or two’.. or was that a later part?
nah im wrong, thy didnt have their lights on in that part. thy parked the truck near a tree when the patrol went passed and thy hid up the tree.
Sweet analysis,
In scene 19, how you wern’t sure which one it was, i was thinking it may be when they leave one of their houses, like when they go from homers to robyns they use bikes, but were they motorbikes? because thats kinda the only bike scene.
wow good work i think in scence 12 they have cut a different scen with the one when they first seen the planes thats why the rifles are there but it could just be a directors interpretation
I’m pretty sure that number 21 is a part of Lee’s rescue. I visited the King St, Raymond Terrrace set, and that is definitely it. And I know that this is where they were filming the rescue scene. I can’t think of any other scene that it could be, even though the truck doesn’t have a shovel.
yea thy beta keep the truck right!!lol.
in scene 5, On the top. Wombegonoo the first 2 pics might b the area where thy c the soilders climbing down into hell? in the 7th book.
Where you said in number 12 you don’t understand why they took rifles to Hell, well this may be just a country kid’s interpretation, but most people who live on farms have rifles in the back of their utes/vehicles all the time (well less so nowdays, but anywho…) just in case of snakes, to go rabbiting/pigging etc. And isn’t there a snake in one of the sleeping bags at the start? I know they don’t have rifles that early in the book, but let’s face it, the movie isn’t going to be exactly like the book.
Just my thought.
u r so tru! homer has the snake in his bag or is it kevin? anyway u r so ryt!!
it’s kevin who finds it in the sleeping bag but homer put it there in the book and in the movie homer tries to get it out.
I’m pretty sure homer says mamá, bampás not mama, papa which is the Greek translation
listen closely you’ll here a B instead of P
Just to clarify mamá bampás is the Greek translation ( when I reread my post I noticed it was worded wrong )
Great point, I’m listening the trailer again and I can confirm you’re right. It makes sense now
looks great.
only dodgy part i saw is the giant “No signal” on the mobile…. just little thingy like that ruin a scene. im no film geek but obviously theres no signal, otherwise theyd use the phone… so why bother putting a huge fake “No Signal” on the screen
Yeah.. Homer definately doesn’t shoot at the helicopter at corrie’s.
And I’m kind of bummed that they’ve replaced the trees with cars at the showground. I always thought the bit where Ellie steps out and is all courage courage courage was pretty important.
oh will u guys stop things freaking racist thing going on !!
its pissing me off,
the book and movies are awesome, omg, wut is the matter with u people? huh?
Number 26 is when they are making a list of things to take back to hell after discovering the abscence of their families. It is when he is telling the group that they can’t take every family heirloom or they will end up with trailers as well as cars.
Also when you say that Homer is shooting the helicopter at Corrie’s house… Are you sure he is acutally firing? Because it says in the book that he raises the rifle up but won’t pull the trigger first.
This site is really good and I love the pictures. Thanks a heap x
you mad a brilliant point there amelia.now you mention it, i remember Homer saying about their family heirlooms and making the list was spot on.good work!
you did hear Homer call “Mama, Papa” and i’m pretty certain he doesn’t shoot at the helicopter in the first book.
