Release date confirmed – September 2

The release date for Tomorrow: When The War Began is set for September 2, 2010.

Released today to Filmink Magazine, producer Michael Boughen and direcetor Stuart Beattie spoke about the film.

In a recent preview screening of footage from the film, producer Michael Boughen said that this film represents a huge step forward for commercial Australian cinema as it is based on a book which has sold nearly two million copies in Australia and New Zealand alone. Boughen said the film’s premise is unique for both a local and international screenplay. “It’s a classic coming of age story, set against an extraordinary war setting. It’s large in scope.”

Adapting this story, which promises to be an action-packed affair, was Stuart Beattie whose screenwriting credits include Australia, Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl and Collateral. Beattie also makes his directorial debut with the film.

“Shooting Tomorrow was by far the toughest experience of my career, but also the most enjoyable… I’ll be forever grateful to John Marsden not only for creating this story but for trusting me to bring it to the screen,” Beattie said.

Being the first in a series of seven books, one cannot help but suspect that Australia may have a commercially viable movie franchise on their hands but Boughen is quick to dispel such a prediction.

“We’re not looking to start a franchise here. We’re in the business of making this book as successful as we can. Any success beyond that is off the basis of this first film,” Boughen said.

  1. Definitely a date to be placed on my calendar. It goes to show how fast the movie has been created. They started shooting in September last year and it’s being released in the same month. Excitement is building.

Now all we await is the trailer. :)

  5. oh i am really excited for this. not a million words could secribe what i want to say. the only problem is that i dont think everyone should be telling everyone they can, otherwise the series arent going to be anything special. because EVERYONE would love tyhe books. like with the twilight stuff. so its why i dont tell anyone about them because i want them to be something secret and special.
though i dont know how thats gonna work out seeing as its gonna be a movie probly all over the world!!!!!!
anyhoo, its great to be an aussie! go john marsden!!!! :)

  6. seriously i reckon when people (who aren’t following the making of this movie) hear it’s being released, it will be a sellout. i’ve got mates who hate reading but have read this book and are hanging out for the movie!

    • Well the official movie sites usually come out when the trailer has been released? I’m not entirely sure but I can only imagine it being open when they can have the trailer on it for viewing so they can play the trailer on television then put the link in the end of the ad. Makes sense to me. Again, i’m not sure how these work.

  7. Oh my God!!!! I cant wait and either can my freinds who r fans of the books :)
I hope it will be extremely awsome!!!!!!!!!!!!
I will be the first to get tickets haha :D

  8. SO very excited, have been looking forward to a movie since….forever but back when I first heard Esben Storm had the rights. I cant believe it finally happening!!! Heres hoping it is so succesfull we get all 7 movies

  9. I can’t wait until this comes out, I love the books. September 2nd!! Even my friends that don’t read have read this book. Does anyone know when the trailer will come out?

  10. OMG!!! so epic! for once kiwis and ozies have got something that the americans aint! =D SO EXCITING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Anyone know when the trailors out? =]

    • Yes! That’s what I want to know too. I check this site religiously every morning and a few times during the day too.

Could some more content and photos be put up to tie us over until the trailer comes out?

And after the trailer we are going to need some more tid bits to sustain us all until the movie comes out!

      I’m so excited :o )

    • It can only be updated when pictures, articles and what-not are released. It’s not as if they are keeping things from us. They made the site to give TWTWB fans updates on the upcoming movie and would defeat the purpose of the site not to show whatever is released.

      • Chris i’m just trying to convey my excitement. All that is pretty obvious but I’m sure I’m not the only one who is wishing for more little bits and pieces.

        • What if there isnt more ‘little bits and pieces’ for them to release to us? It’s about being paitent. And for the record, it wasnt a direct comment to you. It was a general statement.

  11. I’m not sure if this will help those who want more pictures, but there is a facebook group that is also following the movie progress and they have loads of pictures on there. They also just put a new movie still up, hope this helps. The group is called Tomorrow, when the war began movie.

  12. I have to say that it´s really dry from news in the tomorrow world, and I have to compare say that I get really bored waiting for them.
But I love these books and I love that they´ll finally make a movie of it, BUT the should do something to enetertain us in between, ;P heheh no offence.

  13. i just cannot wait until this movie comes out…. hurry up september!!! I hope they release the trailer soon… it’s killing me!!!!! i think the characters are awesome… not what i pictured them to be but i’m sure they’ll make it work none the less!!!!

  14. i can not wait for this movie so excited

  19. Should be SUCH a great movie – but since i’m only i’m only in Year 6, i’m hoping it won’t be over the rating M! Luckily i’m the master of cunning persuasive arguements so i can get mum to let me go into town with my friends and watch it :P

    • Well it might not be released in America – they haven’t got a deal for that yet.

And they dunno if they’re gonna organise one.

So I dunno, but you might have to wait for the DVD.

      • They’ve made the DVD so we can’t see in Canada… maybe I need to plan a trip to Australia. Please, please release it in Canada!!!
