Completely with you! she looks like a towny that goes to the rodeo and tries to fit in. . . Ellie is way to hardy for clothes like that! But im magerly excited about the film good luck and dont give lee a chinesse hat. . .
Cant you all just stop complaining? I’ve seen country people dress like that, and it looks cool! And the books were great and the movies are gonna be awesome! So Ya’ll just stop complaining!
I’m also hyped up! Didn’t know about the movie untill today, I guess we’re a little bit behind in Sweden… But I don’t like the casting, they don’t look like I imagened…

But I suppose it is set 15-ish years ago, assuming that is when the films will also set the story, although to make it relateable, it will be set present day, I bet.
It’s a straw hat… big deal. I would think that one with a similar lifestyle to Ellie – rural – wouldn’t be phased by wearing a hat that isn’t fashionable, as long as it serves its purpose.

Secondly – think the casting agent needs a little help because i can safely say that no one look anything like how the book describes. Corrie…is not british. I think it would be rather hard to immitate an australian accent. And..no offence to him or whatever but Chris…resembles a monkey.
Thirdly – What is with the idea of making the last few books a tv series?! I really dont think thats going to work out…i say keep them all as movies or just dont do it.
We really dont think these movies are going to be good because they most likely wont stick to the books……but i guess we will have to wait and see..

As for Corrie – yes she is Australian but played by an British actor – why don’t you check out Kate Winslet in the movie Hideous Kinki which she puts on a convincing Aussie accent. Obviously you didn’t think Rachel would hire an accent coach so she can speak with an aussie accent.

Your assuming that it HAS to break just because she is working on a farm. You’re also assuming that it would rub on her arm and cut it, due to working the farm, when she could do things that didn’t involve her wrists at all. I think a lot of people would go to the effort of looking good, but from your above comments, I can just see that you think that anyone who doesnt live on a farm is a moron who knows nothing, which makes you an arrogant person.

City people trying to do a country persons job = hilariouty, there’s just something a bit too…… self conscious about the way she looks. Like you can tell she’s not country.
Don’t get me wrong I hope this film is great, but i think what people are saying is if they can’t get the basics right, what chance does the rest of the film have? Although i really want it to be good!
if certain people already know how much the movie not looking ‘authentic’ will annoy them..why keep on coming back to complain to everyone? we get it..move on.
a book never pleases everyone, EVERYONE has different perceptions and the only way you will ever be pleased completely yourself is to go get the millions of dollars of feedback and make the movie yourself..so lets stop picking at a single picture of a straw hat for 2 seconds and give them a chance
I have to admit when I first saw this I jumped, and was thinking, ‘there’s no way that’s Ellie Linton’ But now looking at it again I reckon I’m okay with her. She appears strong (even with the way she’s gripping the handle bars) And the hat and shirt is just right. They really show how little she cares or knows about fashion.
That’s exactly how my boyfriend and I picture her too (and we read the books independently). That said, I can’t remember an actual description of what she looks like.
I don’t think there is a description of Ellie in the book (i am rereading again at the moment and am more consciously looking for description but i get so caught up in the story and my own picture of the characters that i forget) On page 7 Homer does make a joke about Ellie’s strong muscly arms so i guess that’s why we picture her solid. Fi and Robyn and Kevin and Homer and Lee all get described on pages 13-16
Awesome to have a look into the movie, but its just not what i pictured Ellie to look like.. i hope the actors can carry the emotion needed in this story-line….
Eh, the picture really doesn’t do it for me. Caitlyn could potentially be Ellie, but not in that jacket or hat. Just…no. I can see city people being taken in but, if I were designing the costume, I’d actually have a look at what country people wear and tell anyone who wanted to pretty it up to get stuffed.
But, hey, each to their own. Beattie’s a good writer and he’s got to appeal to a wider audience if he wants the series (the books, not just the film/s) to get the recognition that it deserves. If that means playing up to American’s expectations, well, I guess you have to walk the line between doing that and keeping it close to Australian expectations.
ok everyone to tell you the truth, im from the country, and when wearing a hat (although i do not wear a straw one) a hat is for keeping the sun off you face. the fashion is NOTHING here. you wear anything and you expect it to be dirty by the end of the day, so just give them a chance, its one picture from a WHOLE movie.
The hat will most likely only be worn by Caitlyn in the beginning, for example when she goes to tell Homer about their plans of camping and perhaps when driving to Taylors Stitch. It’s not as if she is going to go blowing things up around Wirawee in her hat. So, incase you took that the wrong way, i’m agreeing with you.
haha i totally agree with you it is probably one damn scene she is wearing the hat. oh well everyone else can bustle about how “crap” this photo is but i’m not going to judge until i see the movie.

I know, it’s ridiculous how aggressive people are getting over apparently being “misinterpretated” when no matter where you go, there is always going to be someone who has a different point of view on a topic. Eg. Americans believe Australians live in the bush and have kangaroos hopping down the street.
I can’t wait either. Is there an approximent time set for the release yet?

Having met Caitlin when she was in Norwich and lucky to get my photo taken with her,i’m looking forward to seeing this film when release i’m sure she and the film are going to be a great success.[NEIGHBOURS is not the same without her]I wish her all good wishes for the future and hope the film and her career and the film go to world wide block buster.
I think you guys are blowing this out of proportion, there will be a small bit of the movie before the war starts, this is what it is. And all of you are saying stuff like “country people hate being misrepresented” i mean WTF? have any of you been in a country farming town lately? they are well developed and the girls there do have a fashion sense and don’t walk around all day in a big pair of gumboots and an old cowboy hat, get your heads out of your ass…

Somehow I don’t think that you’ve been on a farm. Sure, girls who live on the farm are probably going going to have fashionable clothes, but they aren’t going to wear those on the farm. I just can’t see any of the farm girls who went to my school actually thinking that the picture ois a fair representation of what they would wear on the farm.
I’ve lived and worked on the land 27 years, although in new zealand not Ausy, and I can tel you no one gives a stuff what they look like, when you are out working. You do however want to wear practical clothes that wont annoy.
Shirt, don’t know.
Hat, would keep the sun off but probably would blow off all the time [very annoying] and seriously doubt would survive being run over by a cow or bike, which my leather 1s have many times [the hat run over, not me off course]
The bangle could seriously be a watch guys, have another look. But to all those townys, seriously guys, you dont dress up pretty for the cows, and if you cared about your jewelery you wouldnt wear it on the farm, it gets covered in s**t and IS easily broken, if you have something nice you keep it for town. Ellie is a practical person, not trying to impress, especially not the cows.
The way Ellies hand is on th bike, could look like that if she was pulling it away from the handlebars as the photo was taken. Give her a chance.
Finally isnt it cool that we love the books so much we care about all the details in a photo like this! I pray they do it justice, lets hope and see. happy reading guys

I don’t think the hat is cliche at all….agree that the simple landmark cap would have been my preferred option, but honestly, as long as they aren’t trotting out in cork hats I’m not too fussed. Whoever is saying country people hate being misrepresented, speaking as one myself I don’t really feel as though this photo degrades me as a human being or prompts a deterioration of my self-esteem. The real representation to make of country people would be pragmatic and not giving a shit about making sure they looked the part, e.g

More intelligent point that was made was the way she is handling the bike. Might just be the moment the photo was taken that has caught her in a slightly awkward spot
Yeah i reckon that it’s pretty hard to tell how she’s handling the bike in a still shot. I’m sure if you took a still shot of everyone at some stage that they’d look a bit delicate, especially at low speeds…. Lets just trust the producers and directors shall we
cant believe the actors that have been chosen, this is one of my favorite books, now to be destroyed by dodgy actors like lincoln lewis and Caitlin Stacie, surely they didnt need to dig the bottom of the barrel.
It’s clear that you haven’t been paying attention to the numerous comments above that are saying it is most likely a bad spot of where she is looking slightly awkward on the bike. You can tell by her face she clearly isnt riding the bike at the current time. Learn to take in and perhaps interpret a photo before you leave a comment and make assumptions on how she wouldn’t survive it if were actually happen. I would love to see you attempt things protrayed in Marsden’s books.
I agree, Everyone is already slagging the movies and actors when we haven’t even seen a trailer yet. We can’t expect it to be as good as or exactly the same as the books- these are the best series of books ever we are talking about. I am really looking forward to the movies. So what if they don’t look exactly like you pictured them!
I agree too. This is an amazing opportunity for the story to be developed into a movie.
I think we can all give the poor girl Caitlin a break – we haven’t seen any clips yet, just one picture, her whole performance or suitability to the character can’t be judged on that.
I’m sure she, her family and friends are all very proud of her getting such a big role, and we should be too that all these relatively unknown kids have got their chance to show the world what they can do.
Personally, looking forward to the movies… I have been checking every day for updates and can’t wait for the day they’re on the big screen in front of me.

I think it potrays Ellie’s character perfectly! It’s a hat, every tough country person around is wearing them! its called sun safety. And she grips the handle bars gracefully? Oh No. Shut up and enjoy the picture, seriously.
It’s the type of hat. I’ve yet to see anyone from the country wear such a stupid, impractical hat as that (its curled cup at the sides for crying out loud!), and I *live* in the country.

Personally i think Ellie looks fine, I wouldnt wear the hat, but im a country girl who lives on a farm and a hats a hat…they all do the same job!

About the bracelet….if you click on the picture it makes it bigger and you can see that it is actually a watch! Whats wrong with wearing a bracelet anyway, OK it might get broken, yes, but i know lots of farm girls who wear bracelets so get over it!
I’m thinking, like most other people that the chosen cast ISN’T that great. However i’m really still looking forward to seeing the movie. The books WILL ALWAYS be better then any movie they could make- that’s just how it is *shrugs*
And this may be quite a bad example: But look at Twilight- when the cast was set for that SO MANY people hated their choice of actors… Now those ‘bad choices’ are loved and people couldn’t picture them any other way.
The hat might be ugly and the ‘bracelet’ looks more like a fancy watch- so what. At least she’s not wearing a face-load of makeup and a hot pink tanktop; remember that things could always be worse.
But that’s just my opinion, and everyone is entitled to that~

Hi, I read the books awhile ago when i was in school and i still read them now. i love them to death. However I am extermly dissapointed in the casting for this movie (more so my dissapointed lies with Ellie and Kevin). My understanding of Ellie. correct me if i;m wrong is blonde and fair skinned. This girl couldn’t even act in neightbours.. I hope to god that she suprises me. Ellie and her crew mean so much to me.

Having met Caitlin when she was in Norwich and lucky to get my photo taken with her,i’m looking forward to seeing this film when release i’m sure she and the film are going to be a great success.[NEIGHBOURS is not the same without her]I wish her all good wishes for the future and hope the film and her career and the film go to world wide block buster.
I think you guys are blowing this out of proportion, there will be a small bit of the movie before the war starts, this is what it is. And all of you are saying stuff like “country people hate being misrepresented” i mean WTF? have any of you been in a country farming town lately? they are well developed and the girls there do have a fashion sense and don’t walk around all day in a big pair of gumboots and an old cowboy hat, get your heads out of your ass…

Hey man i think what they meant when they said country people hate being represented is that they went for the cliche`d look rather than a more accurate depiction, like you said they dont wear gumboots or straw/cowboy hats
Somehow I don’t think that you’ve been on a farm. Sure, girls who live on the farm are probably going going to have fashionable clothes, but they aren’t going to wear those on the farm. I just can’t see any of the farm girls who went to my school actually thinking that the picture ois a fair representation of what they would wear on the farm.
I’ve lived and worked on the land 27 years, although in new zealand not Ausy, and I can tel you no one gives a stuff what they look like, when you are out working. You do however want to wear practical clothes that wont annoy.

Hat, would keep the sun off but probably would blow off all the time [very annoying] and seriously doubt would survive being run over by a cow or bike, which my leather 1s have many times [the hat run over, not me off course]
The bangle could seriously be a watch guys, have another look. But to all those townys, seriously guys, you dont dress up pretty for the cows, and if you cared about your jewelery you wouldnt wear it on the farm, it gets covered in s**t and IS easily broken, if you have something nice you keep it for town. Ellie is a practical person, not trying to impress, especially not the cows.
The way Ellies hand is on th bike, could look like that if she was pulling it away from the handlebars as the photo was taken. Give her a chance.
Finally isnt it cool that we love the books so much we care about all the details in a photo like this! I pray they do it justice, lets hope and see. happy reading guys

I don’t think the hat is cliche at all….agree that the simple landmark cap would have been my preferred option, but honestly, as long as they aren’t trotting out in cork hats I’m not too fussed. Whoever is saying country people hate being misrepresented, speaking as one myself I don’t really feel as though this photo degrades me as a human being or prompts a deterioration of my self-esteem. The real representation to make of country people would be pragmatic and not giving a shit about making sure they looked the part, e.g
hat = thing to keep sun off head.
More intelligent point that was made was the way she is handling the bike. Might just be the moment the photo was taken that has caught her in a slightly awkward spot
Yeah i reckon that it’s pretty hard to tell how she’s handling the bike in a still shot. I’m sure if you took a still shot of everyone at some stage that they’d look a bit delicate, especially at low speeds…. Lets just trust the producers and directors shall we

cant believe the actors that have been chosen, this is one of my favorite books, now to be destroyed by dodgy actors like lincoln lewis and Caitlin Stacie, surely they didnt need to dig the bottom of the barrel.
It’s clear that you haven’t been paying attention to the numerous comments above that are saying it is most likely a bad spot of where she is looking slightly awkward on the bike. You can tell by her face she clearly isnt riding the bike at the current time. Learn to take in and perhaps interpret a photo before you leave a comment and make assumptions on how she wouldn’t survive it if were actually happen. I would love to see you attempt things protrayed in Marsden’s books.
I agree, Everyone is already slagging the movies and actors when we haven’t even seen a trailer yet. We can’t expect it to be as good as or exactly the same as the books- these are the best series of books ever we are talking about. I am really looking forward to the movies. So what if they don’t look exactly like you pictured them!
I agree too. This is an amazing opportunity for the story to be developed into a movie.
I think we can all give the poor girl Caitlin a break – we haven’t seen any clips yet, just one picture, her whole performance or suitability to the character can’t be judged on that.
I’m sure she, her family and friends are all very proud of her getting such a big role, and we should be too that all these relatively unknown kids have got their chance to show the world what they can do.
Personally, looking forward to the movies… I have been checking every day for updates and can’t wait for the day they’re on the big screen in front of me.
please dont start complaining and whinying but everything single detail like those twilight fans that are ever happy enough..the movie isn’t the book its an interpation and a whole different experience!

I think it potrays Ellie’s character perfectly! It’s a hat, every tough country person around is wearing them! its called sun safety. And she grips the handle bars gracefully? Oh No. Shut up and enjoy the picture, seriously.
It’s the type of hat. I’ve yet to see anyone from the country wear such a stupid, impractical hat as that (its curled cup at the sides for crying out loud!), and I *live* in the country.
i absolutely am in love with this book/movie i think it will be great so leave it to the experts but i do agree the hats a little much!!!

Personally i think Ellie looks fine, I wouldnt wear the hat, but im a country girl who lives on a farm and a hats a hat…they all do the same job!
Maybe it was the only hat she could find at the time.
About the bracelet….if you click on the picture it makes it bigger and you can see that it is actually a watch! Whats wrong with wearing a bracelet anyway, OK it might get broken, yes, but i know lots of farm girls who wear bracelets so get over it!

i would like to disagree the characters are pretty much spot on.
I’m thinking, like most other people that the chosen cast ISN’T that great. However i’m really still looking forward to seeing the movie. The books WILL ALWAYS be better then any movie they could make- that’s just how it is *shrugs*
And this may be quite a bad example: But look at Twilight- when the cast was set for that SO MANY people hated their choice of actors… Now those ‘bad choices’ are loved and people couldn’t picture them any other way.
The hat might be ugly and the ‘bracelet’ looks more like a fancy watch- so what. At least she’s not wearing a face-load of makeup and a hot pink tanktop; remember that things could always be worse.
But that’s just my opinion, and everyone is entitled to that~
I think that I am going to have to see some of the motion picture when that comes out. I really don’t like this photo. Caitlin Staseys face is too angular, not anything I had imagined from the books.
I can’t say its really what I pictured Ellie to look like but John Marsden never went into specific detail about that! I imagined her to be more ‘rough’ than that! Anyway, I’m sure the movies will be good. I’m looking forward to them.

Hi, I read the books awhile ago when i was in school and i still read them now. i love them to death. However I am extermly dissapointed in the casting for this movie (more so my dissapointed lies with Ellie and Kevin). My understanding of Ellie. correct me if i;m wrong is blonde and fair skinned. This girl couldn’t even act in neightbours.. I hope to god that she suprises me. Ellie and her crew mean so much to me.
